I haven’t been to Vancouver, British Columbia in a long time – so I was really looking forward to the trip we took this past June on our way to our cruise through Alaska. I’ve always had a little place in my heart for Vancouver, but usually I’m there for a short work trip or hustling through for a trip to Whistler, Canada.
This time we were able to spend two nights exploring the city while creating our Vancouver Travel Guide. We stayed at the DOUGLAS – a brand new Autograph Collection Hotel attached to The Parq Vancouver near BC Place. The space is one-of-a-kind and you won’t find anything quite like it anywhere else.
Here’s what we loved about it!
THE ROOM – A sense of place is integrated into the Pacific Northwest vibes of each room. You’ll find flannel blankets, rich leather furniture, dark wood panelling, and lots of natural light coming via the floor-to-ceiling windows. It’s the perfect balance of nature and city – you feel like you’re in your own personal treehouse with their nature-focused design elements.
THE BATHROOM – Lots of marble, glass and industrial elements in this super modern and spacious bathroom. You definitely don’t feel cramped like in older hotel layouts and there’s LOTS of room to get ready. It truly feels like you’re staying in a small, hip boutique hotel with the amenities of a big hotel. The hotel was built brand new from the ground up so everything is modern and well thought out with what most people want when they travel.
Make sure to slip on one of their cozy bathrobes and enjoy all the luxurious Aesop bath and body products.
HOTEL AMENITIES – The hotel is part of The Parq Vancouver – a newly opened casino and entertainment complex near BC Place. Next door is the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver and you have access to all the hotel amenities (including a fitness room and spa) of the DOUGLAS’ sister property which is also connected to the hotel.
You’re also going to want a photo in the ultra cool elevators
FOOD + DRINK – One of the things I most definitely seek out when I’m in Vancouver is DIM SUM! Luckily, there is MRKT EAST inside The Parq Vancouver Casino. It’s a quick-serve Asian restaurant that’s also open super late for your dim sum and noodle cravings. We opted to stop-in for a quick brunch before heading out to explore the city. The prices are also totally reasonable.
D/6 Bar + Lounge – Just off the lobby is an indoor/outdoor bar that was kickin’ when we checked in late on Friday night. This is where the scene is if you’re looking for a fun night out with lots of cocktails. A dress code is in effect here, just an FYI.
The sixth floor lobby features a huge Douglas fir tree encased in glass
THE ROOFTOP URBAN PARK – the DOUGLAS also has a huge 30,000 square feet rooftop urban park with lots of greenery, a fountain and lots of places just to sit and soak up the sun. This urban park is located six floors up and a great place to do a little meditating. Do head up there and explore!
THE LOCATION – We found our location in Downtown Vancouver super easy to get around. We were walking distance to Yaletown and it was very simple to hop on the AquaBus near our hotel to ferry over to our favourite place in Vancouver – The Granville Island Market. Everything was also an easy 10-15 minute Uber ride away. I would most definitely stay here again!
