Summer is in full swing and I’ve been trying to keep my beauty routine light and fresh to combat the humidity and heat. Where we are in Santa Monica isn’t too bad, but as soon as you get into Downtown Los Angeles or into the Valley – things get hot FAST.
Here’s what I’ve been reaching for so far this summer for to beat the heat and to stay hydrated:
I am really digging this natural Canadian beauty brand out of Vancouver, BC. I have pretty sensitive skin and their products are pretty gentle and nourishing. I have been using the Woodlot Cleansing Balm, Facial Toner, and Facial Oil every night before I go to bed and it’s been hydrating my skin overnight really well. It’s been feeling crispy lately after a big day out in the sun.
The cleansing balm is made with a blend of oils and melts easily in your hands and lathers well to remove dirt and make-up. I follow-up with the toner which contains rose water, hyaluronic acid, and witch hazel to soak up any excess oil.
Since it’s night time, I use the facial oil so my skin can soak up all that good moisture overnight while I sleep. I do love how everything from Woodlot is natural!
I’ve been spring cleaning every closet and drawer in my house after reading this book. Since moving a lot of things into our new beach house, I’ve been feeling extra minimalist lately – ready to get rid of things.
We live in a VERY open-concept loft with no bedroom doors and two closets. Storage and clutter is an issue. Which brought me to my bathroom…
So when was the last time you gave your make-up drawer a good once over? If you’re not sure what to keep or throw away, here’s a handy guide to get you inspired to give your make-up drawer a makeover: (more…)
I can’t believe it’s 2017! I wanted to share with you a few of my January beauty favorites to help keep your skin feeling soft and hydrated in the New Year. Here’s what I’m loving right now:
Do you have a hard time getting up in the morning – especially when its cold and dark outside? Give your body a jolt with this handmade bar of coffee soap made with coconut oil and ground coffee beans. The coffee also does a great job of exfoliating dry, flaky skin and it smells amazing! Definitely one of my top January beauty products. (more…)
With the holidays coming up there is likely a lot of travel coming up on your schedule. I’ll be heading back to LA soon for a visit and bringing a few of my new travel size beauty favourites with me. Here’s what I’m loving lately!
Nuxe Travel Set – Nuxe is one of my favorite natural brands out there and they put together this cute little travel set of their products in a clear zip-up bag. Includes a cleanser, anti-fatigue day cream, dry oil, hand cream and shower oil – perfect for dehydrated skin after a bunch of travel.
For all my friends out east – brrrrr! It’s getting cold out there and your skin is probably freaking out. I have the same problem whenever the weather changes that I wanted to share with you a few of my winter beauty favourites:
Josie Maran 100 Percent Pure Argan Oil – When my skin is really messed up from airplanes, travel, changing altitudes or cold air – I always start layering on the argan oil. Josie Maran’s is 100% pure like the name suggests, so there are no fillers or any other crap. The best way to wear it is to apply it at night before you go to bed and then slather your favourite night cream on top of it. I treat it like a serum and it’s part of my winter beauty routine. (more…)
We’re talking about stuff you actually want to buy for yourself!
The holidays are a great way to stock up on your beauty favorites because there are a TON of special value beauty gift sets that only come out this time of year. You get an amazing amount of product for a discounted price. Here are the ones I really love:
Biotherm Holiday Set
This is one of the first holiday kits I bought for myself! I chose the Aquasource Gel Holiday Set which is perfect if you have combination skin like me. It’s only $41 for an $80 value, plus you get $10 off your first order if you subscribe to their email list.
It includes a full-size moisturizer which I love – everything else feels like a freebie! You also get to choose a few samples upon checkout which just adds to the value as well of getting one of these beauty gift sets. (more…)
It’s been awhile since my last beauty round-up, but I’ve been testing a whole slew of beauty products that I’ve fallen in love with. I paid $10 for that Sephora ‘prime’ service and it’s started an addiction!
Here are a couple fave beauty products I definitely recommend:
1) Caudalie Favorites Kit
I was on the hunt for a new micellar cleanser, when I came across this Caudalie Favorites Value Kit which included the cleanser and a bunch of other skincare products. I love the little trial/travel sizes and it made me a believer of their micellar cleanser and the Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet – I would buy the full-size of both. The cleanser is super gentle and my skin sucked up every last bit of the gel-like sorbet.
It was also really nice working within one system and letting the products compliment each other. For $39 – this is an amazing deal and would make a great Christmas gift! (more…)
With the change in seasons, stress and sitting inside at my desk all day – my skin has begun to look a bit dull. I don’t know if it’s an age thing or maybe even a lifestyle thing, but I’ve finally decided to take charge of my skin. I do my best by keeping hydrated throughout the day, eating well and avoid alcohol during the week. But there are some days when my skin still looks dull.
So what’s a girl to do?
I recently partnered up with Garnier to take their Clearly Brighter Challenge. I wanted to see if their product would make a difference on my skin. I tried their new SkinActive Clearly Brighter Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 for two weeks to see if it would help with any dullness on my face.
Before I started using the product my skin was definitely looking tired, dull and I was prone to breakouts. I have combination skin with an oily T-zone and dry cheeks – so it’s tough find the right balance when it comes to good moisturizer.
What I like about this product is that it is loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin C + E, which work to even out skin tone and texture for brighter and smoother skin. I noticed a difference after just two weeks.
It’s a great way to keep that summer glow going and I like how it made my skin look fresh and bright. I am trying my best to wear sunscreen daily and having it built in to my moisturizer makes mornings a million times easier. It takes two beauty steps and combines them into one and I don’t have to think about whether I remembered to put sunscreen on in my morning haze.
The product claims it will give you brighter, smoother skin in just one week.*
What I like about it is that the formula is oil-free, doesn’t clog my pores and is light enough to wear under make-up.
It does not feel greasy at all and has a matte feel to it once it’s absorbed. The smell is also fresh, fruity and floral which instantly wakes me up in the morning. The product comes in an easy pump bottle that you twist to open and close with no cap to lose!
After about two weeks my skin looked fresher, brighter and healthier. Moisturizing on the regular and having that built in sun protection left my skin with a healthy natural glow.
Invest in a great moisturizer like Garnier’s SkinActive Clearly Brighter Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 and let the formula get to work for you. Be consistent and use it twice a day to get the best results. I know it’s easy to forget to moisturize but you’ll see the benefits in healthier and more hydrated skin when you do.
SkinActive Clearly Brighter Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 is available at CVS, Target, Amazon, Rite Aid and other pharmacies and stores across the country.

I have a confession to make.
So what’s the one thing I slack on?
Brushing my teeth before bed!
Honest to goodness, there are times when I am SO tired that I fall face first into my pillow and into snoozeland. I wish I could be more consistent about it just so I could rock my nighttime routine and help prevent cavities. The weird thing is that I am beyond diligent about flossing and I do it daily. My whole day feels off if I don’t floss in the morning. (more…)
