Since moving to the USA, my birthday now officially lines up with American Thanksgiving. In Canada, we celebrate in October. So I decided to host 26 of my closest friends for an intimate-ish ThanksBirthday dinner party. A mash-up between a birthday party and Thanksgiving dinner all-in-one. Who turns down a chance to eat a Thanksgiving dinner twice? Apparently no one! Paul and I hosted ThanksBirthday the weekend before actual Thanksgiving and everyone was luckily still in town and available.
First off, we held this little dinner party in our townhouse – and moved every single piece of furniture we had on the main floor up to our bedroom and office. I rented three eight-foot tables, gold chiavari chairs, burnt orange linens, gravy boats, wine glasses and salt & pepper shakers. The rentals itself were fairly reasonably priced – it’s the pick-up and delivery that took up most of the cost.
To save on clean-up and more rentals, I opted for these cute little Thanksgiving paper plates, paper napkins and placecards from Target. I bought compostable plastic cups and gold plastic cutlery from Party City. I bought flower vases for $1 from the 99 cents store and bought four bouquets of flowers from Trader Joe’s for $5.99 each. I found decorative gourds at Albertson’s for $1.99 and kept my table decorations at that. (more…)
