I love a good road trip.

I’ve driven from Toronto to California twice on Route 66 and back to Toronto through Colorado. A few of my other favourite trips have been to the East Coast all the way to PEI and then down to Washington, DC. I was also fortunate to road trip Highway 1 along California’s gorgeous coastline. Paul and I are also back and forth on the weekends to our new beach house.

I’ve learned a couple things from all these road trips, so here are my Top 5 Road Trip Essentials:

Planning a summer road trip?

One of our favourite adventures is the drive along the California coast between San Francisco to Los Angeles. Paul and I flew into SFO and were able to hire a car that we later dropped off in LA at the end of our trip. It’s a great way to get on the ground and make stops whenever you like.

But what should you see? What shouldn’t you miss?

Here are 6 unique stops for your Highway 1 California Road trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles! (more…)

Road Trip! Route 66

Lisa-Ng-Route 66

Having driven Route 66 twice in my life already, I had a twinge of nostalgia when I was sent a copy of Travel Route 66: A Guide to the History, Sights, and Destinations Along the Main Street of America by Jim Hinckley.

So how I got about driving it twice is a funny story.

Paul and I made the big road trip in 2013 for an extended beach vacation in Los Angeles. We figured we’d bring our car with us for the month we were going to spend down there. Route 66 is a true delight, if you’re thinking of doing the drive yourself. The history, the nostalgia and being able to see so much of America in just one go was really what drew me to this trip. We really cherished this trip and never thought we would be driving again – but then life happens. Paul was offered the chance to open the US office for his consulting firm and so off we went again!

The Catoosa Whale in Tulsa, Oklahoma is a must-see – obvi.

On The Road Again

Route-66-Road-Trip

We are on the road again! Since my big annoucement last Friday, hubby and I have packed up eurrything we own and drove to Chicago on Saturday for the start of our big drive across Route 66 to California. It’s funny to do this drive a SECOND time, having just done it in October for our vacation – but it’s great to stop and see a couple things on the road we missed the first time – like these gems: (more…)
