I originally shared this recipe last year, but thought it would be good timing for me to re-post again as everyone is getting ready for the upcoming holiday season and Thanksgiving!
Canadian Thanksgiving is on the horizon and American Thanksgiving is not far behind. I’m already collecting recipes for things I might want to cook for the big feast. I thought I would share my recipe for homemade cranberry sauce for those of you also planning ahead. It is so easy to make, that you’ll never want to open a can again.
This year, my parents are flying into Portland for a visit and staying for about 3-4 weeks to baby-sit BINGO while we have a bit of traveling booked on our calendar. So we will likely do a very small celebration in the city with the four of us before Paul and I head out to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Zion National Park + Bryce Canyon!
Gobble gobble! Bookmark, pin or print this recipe for your Thanksgiving menu.
Bring to boil 1 cup of water + 1 cup of sugar. Make sure the sugar is fully dissolved before you add ONE 12 oz bag of fresh or frozen cranberries.

I discovered a little trick while planning for Canadian Thanksgiving last year – which was to plan ahead as much as possible. I recommend cooking and prepping two days before your big dinner so you’re not stuck in the kitchen the whole day while your friends and family are there.
Paul and I had an awesome Canadian Thanksgiving last year and cooked up a feast for his parents who drove a uhaul full of our junk from Toronto to Portland, in order to help us furnish the new beach house!

It finally feels like summer and we just finished hosting Paul’s family at our house on the coast last week. We always throw it down with a crab dinner of some sort for our visitors with fresh cooked crab from our local seafood stand in Lincoln City, Oregon – Barnacle Bill’s.
All of the crab is local Oregon Dungeness Crab caught fresh in the Pacific Ocean that is only 5 minutes away from our house. So we hosted a crab boil last week – but without all the fuss and muss.
We bought cooked crab directly from the seafood market and put all the fixin’s together ourselves. I highly recommend doing this if you feel icky about dealing with live crabs OR if you don’t love the smell of seafood taking over your whole house.

Avocado toast has been getting a bad rap right now and it shouldn’t, because it’s downright delicious and affordable when you make it at home. Also, a brunch dish cannot be blamed for an entire generation being unable to afford a house in an overpriced city centre.
Don’t even get me started.
