We finally made it to Astoria, Oregon!
Since moving to Portland just over a year ago – the pretty coastal town of Astoria has long been at the top of my wish list. Everyone who has come to visit, has pretty much made it to Astoria before we have.
We definitely got sidetracked by the multiple trips made to Lincoln City to work on our airbnb beach house, but now that it’s up and running – we are back to our adventures and travels all over Oregon.
Here’s what I suggest you eat, see, and do on your own weekend getaway to Astoria: (more…)
Erika Lee Sears was one of the first people I met when I moved to Portland. I was amazed by the fact that she makes art everyday. No, FOR REAL. She creates a piece of art everyday and posts it to her Instagram account over at @ErikaLeeSears. Her work has also been featured on Portlandia!
Not only was this incredibly exciting, I loved how Erika has been able to carve out a career as an artist. If you’re thinking of doing the same thing and have thought about pursuing a creative career – read how Erika got her start!
What sort of career path led you towards becoming a full-time artist? Did you study art in school?
Well, if you can believe it, I didn’t start out as wanting to become or be an artist. I didn’t go to school for art at all, and I started my professional career working in the finance industry. (more…)

It’s beginning to feel like the neverending countdown.
The blog posts have been lagging a bit as the beach house has become all-consuming right now as we spend every weekend out on the coast getting ready.
As expected, we are over budget and waaaay past our initial timeline to have this place listed as of March 1st. Here’s what’s been happening lately and still needs to happen with our airbnb beach house in Lincoln City, Oregon: (more…)
After months of construction, design decisions and strategy – Paul and I are finally in the home stretch of getting our beach house ready to list on airbnb! Here’s what’s been happening lately:
Delays, Delays, Delays
As all things construction-related go, there will be delays. We were originally supposed to close on our house the third week of December, but excessive rain, ice storms, and snowstorms did not make for ideal conditions. Portland had the rainiest October on record! Additionally, a lot of trades were snowed in and could not get out to the coast to work on the house.
Throw in Thanksgiving, the Christmas holidays and New Years and things are inevitably going to be delayed. On top of that, Paul and I booked an extremely last-minute trip to Florida right before New Years to see family which only further complicated our timeline. (more…)
If you told me that 2016 was the year I was going to build a house – I would’ve laughed. In fact, Paul and I had our heart set on buying a condo in the Pearl District of Portland but we are SO glad this ended up happening instead.
I’m finally entering the decorating phase of our new beach house on the Oregon coast!
I fully acknowledge how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to work on a project like this. It’s like getting the chance to design our dream house, except we don’t exactly get to live in it full-time.
So comes the beach house balancing act. (more…)
Paul and I bought a new construction home on the Oregon Coast to rent out as an airbnb about 2 months ago and we are now roughly 6 weeks away from our beach house being complete!
It’s all happened so fast.
We are currently about a week behind the projected closing date due to some heavy rain in the area. A tornado even touched down further up north on the coast! Things still feel like they are coming along really quickly though with the beach house. (more…)
