We are back in Toronto for a little visit and were recently invited by Hotel Le Germain for an overnight stay at their Mercer Street location. Staying with our parents in the ‘burbs has been great, but it was nice to actually be in the city and avoid all the crazy traffic in and out of it. How did Toronto get so busy?
Our little mini-staycation was EXACTLY what we needed. The location was perfect for seeing friends and family. I also booked a few meetings that day and was able to use Victor Restaurant as a meet-up spot. (more…)
I had an amazing time meeting up with my sister in San Francisco recently! She had to fly in from Toronto for a conference and flights for me from Portland are $100 round-trip, so it was the perfect chance for us to hang out.
We got up to a lot of shopping, fun dinners and taking our time exploring the city. If you’re ever heading to San Francisco, I definitely recommend checking out the Kimpton Sir Francis Drake Hotel – where we stayed!
The Location – We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better location for a weekend girls trip. The Sir Francis Drake Kimpton was smack dab in the middle of all the shopping action in Union Square. Which meant super easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and cable cars.
On our first morning, we were able to walk to Chinatown for dim sum to go at Good Mong Kok and then over to Boba Guys for an Iced Match Latte. You’re also only about a 20-minute walk to the Embarcadero waterfront and for lunch at The Slanted Door inside The Ferry Building. See my previous San Francisco Travel Guide for more trip planning ideas!
Fall is finally here!
Which means it’s a great time to head out to the Oregon coast. You’ll find that things have slowed down and there aren’t as many tourists as there are in the summer months. Paul, BINGO and I made our very first trip to Seaside, Oregon earlier this year and had a chance to check out the newly-renovated Ashore Hotel.
The Ashore Hotel is an awesome retro motel that went through A LOT of modern upgrades to make this a hip little outpost by the sea. We loved it because it was dog-friendly and we could have our pup with us. BINGO loves the beach, so it would super made if he didn’t get to come along with us. (more…)
New York is easily one of my favourite cities to visit.
So when Paul’s aunt celebrated her 70th birthday this past weekend, we made plans to fly across the country to join the celebration. The most stressful thing about planning a last-minute trip to NYC is finding a good hotel room. We ended up choosing the Marriott Courtyard Chelsea which has an amazing location in the heart of Manhattan.
Getting There – We flew Delta direct from Portland to NYC into JFK Airport. From there it was one quick AirTrain ride to Jamaica Station and then the Long Island Railroad express with just two stops to Penn Station in just 20 minutes. We avoided a ton of traffic this way and the train is always such a smooth ride – especially if you get motion sick easily like me (hello NYC cabs!) (more…)
Happy November! Paul and I just returned from a week in Austin, Texas and will have lots of great things to share with you from our visit. We were so lucky to be able to stay at the JW Marriott Austin right in the heart of downtown. The hotel was built from the ground-up and recently opened this past summer.
In terms of location, we were never more than a $5-10 Uber ride from all the great shops on South Congress or the bars around town. We could easily walk to dinner and some of the major shopping districts around Austin.
A DIY Margarita Bar with Chips + Homemade Salsa welcomed me in my room! (more…)
