Travel Guide: Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park has always been a place I’ve always wanted to visit.

I grew up in the thick of the city. I never really connected with nature until recently. I didn’t know places of such beauty existed and the more I learn, the more I feel the need to travel. Since Yosemite is only about a five-hour drive from our home in Los Angeles, Paul and I packed up for a long weekend road trip. Here are my travel tips:

Getting to Yosemite National Park – We road-tripped from Los Angeles and broke up the drive with an overnight stop in Fresno. We left Thursday at around Noon and zipped right out of the city (skipping LA traffic) and into a hotel in Fresno where we had dinner and chilled out for the night. Paul and I stayed at Homewood Suites by Hilton Fresno and it was awesome.

A complimentary dinner with wine or beer is included for stays from Monday to Thursday and a hot breakfast was included with our rate too. It was very similar to a stay I wrote about in Dallas. It was actually a bit cheaper for us to stay in Fresno for the night then it was to tack on an extra night in Yosemite Park.

The drive from Los Angeles took about 3.5 hours and we had lots of time for a shopping stop at Fashion Fair Mall in Fresno and to grab water, supplies and snacks at Whole Foods. We gased up our car, woke up the next day, had a nice relaxing breakfast at the hotel and were on the road by 10 AM.

Yosemite-Lodge-Falls

The drive from Fresno to Yosemite Lodge at the Falls (our hotel) took about 2.5 Hours and we were checked in and eating lunch at the lodge by 1 PM. After which, we had a full day to explore and went on a long bike ride until about 6 PM or so – after which, we were done.

I love taking my time and relaxing while I’m on vacation. If we were rushing from place to place all the time, it would be no fun. Set a leisurely pace and just enjoy the ride. (more…)
