After my visit to the Shangri-La Hotel in Vancouver this past summer I couldn’t wait to finally see what the Toronto property would be like.
It did not disappoint.
The Shangri-La Hotel Toronto opened in September 2012 and is an Asian luxury hotel brand with lots of influences from the Far East. The lobby features large-scale Chinese calligraphy paintings, subtle Asian decor touches and a long glowing fireplace. Don’t miss Zhang Huan’s stainless steel sculpture, Rising – climbing up the side of the building on University Avenue.

Shangri-La easily has one of the best locations in the city – at the crossroads of the financial and entertainment district and just a quick walk from the Toronto Eaton Centre. The restaurants on Queen and King Street are a streetcar ride away. It’s also next to a subway station, making it easy to get to the shopping and museums in Yorkville. It’s an excellent home base if you’re not planning on renting a car in Toronto for your getaway. You definitely don’t need it if everything on your agenda is happening around the downtown core.
