After months of construction, design decisions and strategy – Paul and I are finally in the home stretch of getting our beach house ready to list on airbnb! Here’s what’s been happening lately:
Delays, Delays, Delays
As all things construction-related go, there will be delays. We were originally supposed to close on our house the third week of December, but excessive rain, ice storms, and snowstorms did not make for ideal conditions. Portland had the rainiest October on record! Additionally, a lot of trades were snowed in and could not get out to the coast to work on the house.
Throw in Thanksgiving, the Christmas holidays and New Years and things are inevitably going to be delayed. On top of that, Paul and I booked an extremely last-minute trip to Florida right before New Years to see family which only further complicated our timeline. (more…)
If you told me that 2016 was the year I was going to build a house – I would’ve laughed. In fact, Paul and I had our heart set on buying a condo in the Pearl District of Portland but we are SO glad this ended up happening instead.
I’m finally entering the decorating phase of our new beach house on the Oregon coast!
I fully acknowledge how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to work on a project like this. It’s like getting the chance to design our dream house, except we don’t exactly get to live in it full-time.
So comes the beach house balancing act. (more…)
Our all-white kitchen so far!
We are just over a month away from closing on a new construction home that we’ve been customizing and we are super excited! There are SO Many things I’ve learned from this process that I wanted to share with you all in case you are thinking of doing a major home reno or redesigning your existing home: (more…)
Paul and I bought a new construction home on the Oregon Coast to rent out as an airbnb about 2 months ago and we are now roughly 6 weeks away from our beach house being complete!
It’s all happened so fast.
We are currently about a week behind the projected closing date due to some heavy rain in the area. A tornado even touched down further up north on the coast! Things still feel like they are coming along really quickly though with the beach house. (more…)
We bought an Airbnb about a month ago now and we’re starting to face all the expenses that comes with it. I said to Paul, the first 6 months are going to be the hardest – but once we get this thing off the ground, it’s going to be a ton of fun!
We’re now only about 2.5 months from construction being complete and being handed the keys to our new place in Olivia Beach on the Oregon Coast in Lincoln City.
If you’re thinking about doing the same thing, here are some start-up costs to consider:
I considered this mermaid tile for a second, but $$$
We bought a beach house last month and decided to turn it into an airbnb.
Construction is already under way in the Olivia Beach community and we are 2.5 months away from completion! Which means I have about another 2-3 weeks to finish up any design decisions, figure out paint colours, order the bathroom vanities, floor tiles, shower tiles and finish pricing out the engineered hardwood.
