There are days when my regular drugstore products just don’t cut it. I noticed that as the seasons change, my skin can become more demanding – especially during the winter.
I met the fine folks at Bremenn Clinical in their hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah when I attended my first Alt Summit in January. It was perfect timing because the altitude change coupled with my recent long-haul flight from Tokyo to Los Angeles was beginning to wear on my skin. My face would go through an intense period of dryness, followed by a cycle of excessive oil production and then a breakout. I really began to feel self-conscious of how my skin looked.
A face regimen overhaul was in order.
First up, I got rid of all my face wipes that were loaded with alcohol. I am really lazy about taking my make-up off at night that I usually give it a quick wipe and I crash into bed. I switched to a more gentle Micellar water to cleanse my skin and it made a big difference. (more…)
One of the biggest surprises from attending my very first ALT Summit was finding how collaborative the attendees and speakers really are. People are genuinely trying to help each other and get the real answers to all the social media, traffic and blogging-related questions we all have. The vibe is waaaay less competitive then some of the blogger conferences I have been to in the past.
Also – peeps go ALL OUT on their business cards. We’re talking creative bags containing a DIY contraption. Mine were not all that exciting all of a sudden. But I did appreciate how much effort people put into differentiating themselves and there are some beautiful creative souls out there.
I am not lying when I say this is the BEST blogger conference I have ever attended with top tier speakers and attendees. ALT-goers are serious about their work, but a fun and creative bunch to be around. I wouldn’t say it’s for newbie bloggers who are just starting out. All the seminars were more intermediate and high level and I felt that the conference price tag of $600 for two days attracted people who are serious and professional about their work. (more…)
The Town Lift takes you from Main Street right on to the ski hill
I am married to a man who loves to snowboard.
After spending years as a snow bunny on the sidelines, I finally took up skiing last year and fell in love with the sport. So when a blogging conference came up in Salt Lake City last month, Paul did not hesitate to join once he discovered that he could go snowboarding every day while I was at my conference. Once I wrapped up my work, I took a couple days off and made it into a vacation and off we went to neighbouring Park City for a winter ski and snowboard getaway!
Getting There – Shuttles from Salt Lake City run around $35 each way per person. We opted to rent an SUV from the airport for around $70/day so we could come and go on our own schedule. Since we were not staying at the base of the ski hill and wanted to explore on our own – this was a good option. The drive from Salt Lake City Airport to Park City takes about 45 minutes and you’ll be hitting the slopes in no time. I flew direct from Los Angeles for about $200 round-trip and takes about 90 minutes. (more…)
I am officially back from ALT Summit! After spending a week or so in Salt Lake City for my first ALT blogging conference and visiting Park City to work on my skiing skills – I am wiped. My brain is actually about to explode from all the new things I’ve learned…which I will share with you all tomorrow!
But first things first. I had amazing time cooking with Kelsey Nixon from the Food Network as part of a series of sponsor dinners held on the Wednesday night before ALT actually kicked off. I also love that we are sort of the same height (see above). The night started off with me rushing to the venue straight from SLC airport after a two-hour mechanical delay at LAX – blergh.
The 20 or so bloggers that signed up for the cooking class + dinner with Kelsey all squealed with delight when we saw the mini rainbow sprinkle cakes spread throughout the kitchen at Orson Gygi. They did double-duty as decor AND dessert – so smart! (more…)
I was Salt Lake City this past weekend to attend Altitude Summit 2014 – or Alt Summit, a conference for bloggers. More on that coming in another post! Once the hoopla ended on Saturday morning, Paul and I headed out to Park City, Utah for – get this….a ride on North America’s LONGEST Alpine Slide!
It’s sort of like a roller coaster built into the mountain with hairpin turns and a hand brake to slow you down. How was it? See the helmet cam that we shot with our GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition for our ride down the mountain!
Check back soon for more fun photos from my trip to Park City, Utah!
