Have you tried out any products yet from Joe Fresh Beauty?

I recently attended the launch of Joe Fresh Beauty’s arrival at Shoppers Drug Mart at Artscape Sandbox. I had the chance to see the new beauty products up close and the look and feel of them are clean, modern and of course, fresh! The vast collection includes seasonal colours and products for face, cheeks, eyes and lips. With prices ranging from just $8 to $18, the collection is affordable and accessible to individuals on a tight budget. If you enjoy Joe Fresh’s approach to chic and cheap clothes, you’ll dig their approach to make-up and beauty…

Beauty Trends: Spring 2016

By: Alison Silveira

When I attended World MasterCard Fashion Week (WMCFW) earlier this year, I was an eager spectator. This season, I had the novel experience of going backstage at WMCFW with Maybelline New York Canada’s lead makeup artist, Grace Lee, to learn about the hottest beauty trends for spring. (more…)

The Stirling Room – Toronto

By: Alison Silveira

As you enter the Distillery Historic District’s pedestrian-only village, the first building that you will gaze upon is 16 Trinity Street, which houses the Stirling Room, one of Toronto’s best upscale nightclubs.

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, the Stirling Room hosted a festive party filled with great company, music, summer cocktails and scrumptious hors d’oeuvres. The summer is also the perfect time for the Stirling Room to kick off its patio launch. It’s a fantastic place to people watch, the patio is a casual and relaxed space to sip on a cold drink while enjoying the gorgeous sunny weather.

The contemporary decor adorning the traditionally preserved building makes for a modern and sophisticated space that is aesthetically appealing. Bright orange banquettes wrap around the wall of the patio and decorative lighting hangs from a beam that extends the length of the patio.

While mingling with guests, I sipped on a tropical cocktail and nibbled on delicious appetizers catered by the Food Dudes including: flavourful lamb tacos, smoky chicken drumettes and pizza topped with cremini mushrooms and rosemary goat cheese.

A Summer Barbecue with Beretta Farms

By: Alison Silveira

It is said that Toronto has only two seasons: hockey and patio seasons, and both are quite short. Alas, hockey season is long gone, but patio season and the sunny skies are finally here!

I was recently invited to my first barbecue of the summer, which was hosted by Beretta Farms on the rooftop patio of the Burroughes Building. Vibrant gerber daisies added a splash of colour to rustic wooden tables. I took in gorgeous views of the city skyline as I chatted with a friend while sipping on a spicy Walter Caesar cocktail.

A grill master stationed at the barbecue was serving Beretta Farms’ new line of beef, chicken and turkey hot dogs. I dressed them up with the finest gourmet fixings, including zesty aioli and corn. (more…)

The One Eighty Toronto

By: Alison Silveira

Years ago, I lived at 44 Charles Street West in the Manulife Centre in Yorkville and I still consider it to be the hottest neighbourhood in Toronto. When I recently attended the media preview of the rebranded restaurant, The One Eighty Toronto on the 51st floor of the Manulife Centre, it was like a warm, resplendent homecoming.

I took the time to admire the contemporary and stylish design of the restaurant, which features industrial metals and a soft grey palette. Déjà vu set in, as I once again took in the million dollar views of Toronto’s ever evolving, gorgeous skyline.

I greeted my friends and our attentive server offered me a refreshing rosemary bramble cocktail. It was the perfect start to a sumptuous feast. Yorkville is synonymous with luxury and what is more luxurious than tableside bar cart service?

Bringing back this service stops indecisiveness in its tracks, as you can instantly choose appetizers that catch your fancy. I chose the incredible savoury and sweet foie gras crème brûlée. Rich and creamy, it was as tasty as it was indulgent. (more…)

Swarovski’s Atelier – Spring/Summer 2015

By: Alison Silveira

Whenever I visit any Swarovski store, I tend to marvel at the delicate beauty of the figurines and jewellery. Swarovski is synonymous with the glitz and glamour of ornate crystal.

My love for Swarovski hearkens back years ago to when my parents displayed a figurine of a beautiful butterfly in their showcase. The undeniable quality, precision, and craftsmanship shines through in all of the brand’s unique pieces.

I attended a media preview of Swarovski’s Spring/Summer 2015 jewellery and accessories collection, as well as the Atelier 2015 collection at Toronto’s flagship store on Bloor Street West.

The theme of Swarovski’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection is Crystal Gardens, which showcases absolutely stunning pieces in soft pastel shades to more vibrant jeweled tones. It is fitting that Swarovski chose the Crystal Gardens theme, as the brand is famous for drawing on inspiration from nature with its array of plant and animal figurines. (more…)
