I had an amazing time meeting up with my sister in San Francisco recently! She had to fly in from Toronto for a conference and flights for me from Portland are $100 round-trip, so it was the perfect chance for us to hang out.
We got up to a lot of shopping, fun dinners and taking our time exploring the city. If you’re ever heading to San Francisco, I definitely recommend checking out the Kimpton Sir Francis Drake Hotel – where we stayed!
The Location – We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better location for a weekend girls trip. The Sir Francis Drake Kimpton was smack dab in the middle of all the shopping action in Union Square. Which meant super easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and cable cars.
On our first morning, we were able to walk to Chinatown for dim sum to go at Good Mong Kok and then over to Boba Guys for an Iced Match Latte. You’re also only about a 20-minute walk to the Embarcadero waterfront and for lunch at The Slanted Door inside The Ferry Building. See my previous San Francisco Travel Guide for more trip planning ideas!
The Bar + Complimentary Happy Hour – What I love about ALL Kimpton hotels is that they offer a complimentary Wine Hour for all of their guests from 5-6 pm daily. It’s a great way to get your night started or to wind down after a day of shopping. Bar Drake, adjacent to the lobby is where you will find your wine.
I love wine hours when I’m traveling, it’s a great way to meet visiting people from all over and a fun way to swap travel tips and ideas with fellow guests.
Dog-Friendly – Of course, I also love that Kimpton properties are dog-friendly and will accepts your pup no matter the size and no matter the number of pets. There’s also no pet deposit or additional charge.
The Room – The Sir Francis Drake Hotel has been around since 1928 and is named for the 16th Century explorer who almost discovered San Francisco Bay. That being said, the rooms are comfortable and cozy. Ours featured in huge walk-in closet for luggage!
Amenities – We loved that all the furniture and decor all had a touch of old Hollywood glam with lacquer pieces and pops of bold colour. I also made use of the modern and updated fitness room which had free weights and lots of cardio equipment to sneak in a quick workout.
Yoga mats and Public Bikes are also available to borrow from the hotel.
Retro desk to catch-up on a bit of work
The Bathroom – I loved all the classic little jewel box touches. They had a classic and historic feel to it, but with a modern touch. Ours featured a tub/shower and a small vanity.
The Starlight Room – Definitely do not miss a chance to have a nightcap atop of the hotel inside The Starlight Room. There’s dinner, dancing, drinks, and gorgeous views of the San Francisco skyline.
