With the weather finally getting warmer, I’ve been taking inventory of my maxi dresses – my go-to uniform for Sunday brunch and lazing around. I found this beauty at a Billabong store in Maui. The Dream Escape Maxi Dress was perfect with a pair of wedge heels for my short stature (5’2″) and flowy enough that it was a nice light outfit to wear out in the heat. At night I would pair it with this cropped jean jacket in case it got chilly.
I took my maxi dress out for a spin at the Maui Farmers’ Market last week, where Paul and I stopped to pick up some fresh fruit to stock our hotel fridge during our stay. I ended grabbing bananas, fresh Maui Gold pineapple, homemade banana bread and local organic lemons for our morning lemon water.
We’ve started traveling with a paring knife and a small tupperware container just for our lemon water. I swear, the daily shot of vitamin C is what keeps me healthy when I’m away.
Stocking up on fresh fruit stopped us from reaching for unhealthy snacks or too many expensive dinners out. I highly recommend hitting up a local farmers’ market wherever you travel. It’s such a nice way to get settled in. I called ahead to our hotel to make sure we had an empty fridge for our fruit.
I couldn’t say no to a fresh $4 coconut for the water and meat!

Lounging poolside in my oh-so-comfy maxi dress.
I also ended up buying these two maxi dresses before my trip – I know I’ll make lots of use of both all summer long. On the left, The Stay A While maxi dress also from Billabong (they have an awesome selection of dresses for under $100). The midi-length is great for us petite girls. On the right is The Felicity & Coco High/Low Hem Tank Dress I ordered from Nordstrom. If you’re thinking of ordering this dress – it fits quite large that I recommend going one-size down.
