One of my most favorite and easy DIY gifts to create every holiday season is this Layered Cookie Mix Gift in a Jar. If you can scoop ingredients with a spoon – you can make this gift! That’s how easy it is. Here’s how:
Start with a clean 1-quart jar. If you want to get really efficient, quadruple the amount of ingredients required and head to the bulk store to stock up. You can knock out four of these jars at one time, measuring and making a mess just once and getting four amazing gifts out of it.
Mix flour, salt + baking soda in a large bowl first
Layer your ingredients in a jar
Feel free to experiment with the mix-ins. I chose to use a mix of chocolate chips and shredded coconut. You could easily substitute red and green candy-covered chocolate, toffee pieces, white chocolate chips, macadamia nuts or even dried cherries.
Decorating Your Jar – Give your jar a little handmade touch by adding a piece of scrap fabric of holiday wrapping paper to the top of you jar. Tape it down first and then use a piece of ribbon or baker’s twine for a little extra flare. Don’t forget to affix a tag with the directions on how-to bake off these cookies and what to add.
This gift is truly perfect for anyone who loves cookies! Keep a couple jars on hand for neighbors, last-minute hostess gifts, teacher gifts and of course for friends and family.
I like pairing my DIY Holiday Cookie Mix Gift in a Jar with a bottle of Sutter Home Family Vineyards Wine in a sweet little basket lined with a holiday napkin and a small utensil you can get at the dollar store. Look for a mini whisk, spatula or wooden spoon to give your gift that extra touch.
This small little gift is just a nice way to make a visit over the holidays a little more special. I don’t like showing up empty-handed to a home where someone has put so much care, effort and time into hosting.
For this gift, I chose a bottle of Sutter Home Moscato which is a sweet wine that is perfect for pairing with a dessert. It’s the ideal wine for bringing people together and is a family-owned company for three generations that offers award-winning wine at an affordable price.
Here’s how you can re-create this cookie mix gift in a jar at home!
