Too much sun? Trying to keep your skin in check?
I’m a big fan of Dermalogica products and nothing has ever come close to the Overnight Repair Serum ($63) that I use that is like a light oil that soaks into my skin. I always look fresher and more relaxed the next day and I apply it religiously when I travel. To say I am addicted is an understatement. I’ve tried other brands, but I keep coming back to this one by Dermalogica.
Our friends at Dermalogica have shared their Top 5 Summer Skin Tips for beautiful, healthy skin + a giveaway a the end of this post!
1. Exfoliate for clearer, smoother skin
Exfoliation removes dead, dulling skin debris to prevent congestion and improve hydration from toners and moisturizers. Perform in the morning prior to toner, moisturizer, SPF and make-up application. Your make-up will last longer on exfoliated skin! For the face try the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and for the body try the Dermalogica Exfoliating Body Scrub.
2. Keep skin hydrated
Up your regimen’s level of hydration with intensive masques, perfect for use once or twice a week. Boosters (like the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster) are a great fit, working best when layered underneath a moisturizer. Toners (try the Dermalogica Antioxidant HydraMist) are refreshing moisturizer prep, working to even out skin porosity.
3. Make friends with H20
Higher temperatures and more time outdoors on the deck can lead to internal dehydration, which can result in headaches and dizzy spells! Eight 8-ounce glasses of plain, filtered water every day help maintain critical moisture balance of the body and skin, and assist in detoxification. If you drink caffeinated beverages, you must triple the amount of water you drink!
4. When in doubt, apply (and reapply!)
It’s not enough to just apply sunscreen; you must apply enough, and apply frequently (try the Dermalogica Oil Free Matte Block SPF30 for a greaseless formula). Studies indicate that most people do not apply nearly as much daylight protection as they should. How much? A teaspoon for the face. For the body, about as much as would fill a shot glass. How often? Re-apply every two hours. Stay out of the midday sun from mid-morning to late afternoon whenever you can.
5. Soothe over-exposed skin
You forgot the sunscreen, didn’t apply enough, or got caught in a sunny spell? Unfortunately, the damage is done, but you don’t have to suffer in pain! Super-soothing botanicals and cooling gels can help prevent peeling and reduce redness and inflammation. Apply cooling balms (like the After Sun Repair) generously to over-exposed skin, preferably at the first sight of a pink glow.
Prevention: One blistering sunburn doubles your risk of melanoma — remember to get a yearly skin exam by a doctor and perform self-examinations once a month to detect early warning signs of carcinomas and malignant melanoma.
