I love brunch.
One of my favourite ways to entertain is by hosting a casual laid-back weekend brunch party at my place. It’s a great way to catch-up with friends and it’s so nice to have something to look forward to at the end of a busy week. Not to mention, you avoid the crazy Sunday brunch line-ups and my guests are encouraged to stay as long as they’d like!
For my typical brunch menu, I like to keep things simple and prep as many things ahead of time as possible. Staying out of the kitchen and hanging with my guests are key! A fruit salad is easy to prep, I also like mixing my pancake batter the night before, making them 15 minutes before guests arrive and popping them into the oven to keep warm. An easy trick for bacon is to use your oven and a drip tray to cook a large batch so you’re not splattering oil everywhere.
For an even more casual approach, stick to a more continental-style brunch with frozen croissants that you pop into the oven, a variety of spreads, cheeses, fresh fruit, cured meats and hard or soft-boiled eggs. Lots of coffee and a variety of teas are a must!
The one thing my weekend brunch cannot do without is the mimosa. I like to have them pre-made with a little garnish so I can hand them to my guests as they arrive. Do keep a bottle at the table so guests can top themselves up easily.
