The Clarins My Blend Facial at The Ritz Carlton Toronto was by far the most thorough facial I have ever received. It was also the most priciest, which definitely proves that you get what you pay for.
My 90-minute treatment with my therapist Natalia, actually began with a 20-minute consultation and photos of my skin using a special machine developed by My Blend founder, Dr Olivier Courtin. Using different types of light, filters, a camera and a survey – the photo booth/computer was able to analyze my skin before my facial even began.
My Skin Analysis – The computer was able to tell me that I had combination to oily skin that is slightly dehydrated with moderate firmness. My pores were slightly dilated and there was was mild pigmentation. All in all – not SO scary as I thought it would be. With all the flying and traveling that I’ve been doing, combined with being busy/stressed and not drinking enough water – I thought I would be in the severly dehydrated category. So I was definitely surprised about the results.
My Beauty Prescription – I was prescribed 03 Stress Management Cream for Day & Night. I was given two boosters, one for Redness Rescue and another for Moisture Immersion. Going forward I was advised to try out Clarins Detoxifying Gel, Skin Polish Face Scrub Cleanser and Time Resistant Eye Cream to round-out my beauty routine. These were the custom-chosen products that would be used on me during my facial.
I had booked the My Blend Regenerating Facial ($270, 90 minutes) which included cleansing, scrub, steaming, a mask, extractions, boosters and moisturizer to finish. While the mask was doing its work, I was treated to an arm and foot massage which relaxed me to the point where I almost fell asleep! Natalia also used jade rollers and cold chromoglobes on my face to improve circulation and for colour therapy, which felt amazing – I had never tried this before. The products are clinical strength and use concentrations of peptide complexes, vitamins and plant extracts to heal and treat the skin.
I’m really glad I did this. It’s been a long time since I’ve really thought about my skin and how much it has changed since I’ve grown older and moved to a new climate. When I first arrived in California I was STRESSED OUT. I put so much pressure on myself to re-created the life that I had spent 10 years building in Toronto into just the few months I had spent actually being in LA. This had a terrible affect on my skin and I was breaking out like crazy when I first arrived.
The Ritz Carlton Spa Toronto is located on the 5th Floor and features North America’s only Spa My Blend by Clarins. The Spa is a 23,000 square foot light filled retreat with a co-ed relaxation room, green tea infused Vitality Pools, an aromatherapy steam room, sauna, and champagne nail bar. Bring your bathing suit and take a dip in the indoor saltwater pool and hot tub. The spa was recently awarded #1 Spa in the World from Travel + Leisure’s 2013 World’s Best Awards.
Whenever I splurge on a facial (and for me it’s one every 2-3 months), I feel like it’s a skin reset. I start treating it better and paying attention to how it reacts with my diet and new products. If you’re feeling like the way I felt, I definitely recommend booking a Clarins My Blends Facial – it includes a 20-minute consultation and assessment and will answer a lot of skin questions for you.
