A Summer Barbecue with Beretta Farms

By: Alison Silveira

It is said that Toronto has only two seasons: hockey and patio seasons, and both are quite short. Alas, hockey season is long gone, but patio season and the sunny skies are finally here!

I was recently invited to my first barbecue of the summer, which was hosted by Beretta Farms on the rooftop patio of the Burroughes Building. Vibrant gerber daisies added a splash of colour to rustic wooden tables. I took in gorgeous views of the city skyline as I chatted with a friend while sipping on a spicy Walter Caesar cocktail.

A grill master stationed at the barbecue was serving Beretta Farms’ new line of beef, chicken and turkey hot dogs. I dressed them up with the finest gourmet fixings, including zesty aioli and corn.

My favourite pick of the evening was definitely the chicken hot dog, which was served on a sweet artisan bun with gourmet condiments certainly jazzing it up.

The hot dog is the quintessential summer snack and Beretta Farms’ dogs are completely Canadian-raised, certified organic, gluten-free and nitrate-free, which also means that the meat is antibiotic and hormone-free. I could undoubtedly taste the difference, as Beretta’s dogs were fresh, chewy and not overly salty like ubiquitous street meat.
